Double squirrel “C E” makers mark for Carl Eickhorn of Solingen to the forte.
The 28 1/4 inch blade is overall very good with superb etching still clear (perhaps fainter one side), some patina / inert rust patches towards the point, firm in the hilt. Hilt / guard in aged but good condition, the green (starboard) and red (port) glass eyes present in the lions head pommel. The ivorine grip is good but most of the twisted grip wire bindings are gone. Leather and brass scabbard good for age; the folding guard section of the hilt locates as it should onto the scabbard’s top locket’s pin. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice, well above average example at a decent price; was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Y75. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1478-101x18x16 (2.058).
