Made by top maker, Mole, dated to 1882. Marked “5 D. G., D, 312” (5th Dragoon Guards, D Troop, weapon 312) to inside of guard, struck out when later transferred to Berkshire Yeomanry. The scabbard is a period replacement, added when it was with the Berkshire Yeomanry.
The 34 1/2 inch blade is in good condition but has been coarsely sharpened / cleaned. Blade firm in the hilt. The Maltese Cross guard / hilt is good but has remnants of presumed later paint in places. The composite grip in good condition. Steel scabbard is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice example of iconic sword by top maker and marked to major regiment. Bargain! was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Y63. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1498-128x17x17 (2.945).
