This 1854 pattern “Gothic Hilted” sword has a dress weight blade and brass scabbard for a senior British infantry officer.
The 32 inch dress (levee / piquet) weight blade is exceptionally well etched and in very good condition, plus firm in the hilt. The brass “Gothic” hilt with some though minimal distortion (these hilts are not very strong and are so often badly bent) is in very good condition. The fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings also very good. The brass scabbard is good but has a bend in it (should be able to correct with care); despite this, the sword sheathes and draws well (and yes, the blade is straight).
Very good looking sword and scabbard, finely etched, in well above average condition. Well worth our price of was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number Y57. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1467-117x15x14 (1.513).
