In good condition, a scarce “Solid” blade type Victorian British 11th Hussars Named Officer’s Wilkinson Sword

This has the “solid” flat bladed variant of the 1821 pattern light cavalry officer’s sword by Wilkinson, which was sold at a price premium to the standard fullered blade of the time. Serial number 14443, mounted 13th May 1866, sold to JS Black Esq. James Scott Black, born 1841 in Dalmonach, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. He went on to be a Captain then Justice of the Peace J.P. He married Louisa Isabel Seawell, daughter of Samuel Arthur Seawell in 1880. He died in 1910 in Balgowan, Perthshire, Scotland.



The 35 1/2 inch period sharpened blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard with age / tarnish but good. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings with age but good. The steel scabbard with dents / dings and some inert rust is still good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
