J.A. Goodger was a Warrant Officer rank Gunner who was promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant during WW2, such promotion speaking volumes for his service. It appears he met his end (was Killed In Action) during the war. No maker’s or retailer’s marking; probably bought for him by the Royal Navy upon his promotion.
The 31 1/4 inch blade in good condition but with multiple patina patches. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt very good with much gilt remaining. White fishskin grip and associated grip wire bindings all good. Original sword knot very good (adds to belief he died in action). Leather and brass fittings scabbard good, some age / wear. The folding guard section works well and locates properly onto the scabbard pin. The sword sheathes and draws well.
