Much to the disdain of the Wilkinson Sword Company, Wilkinson & Co of Southsea were a small naval outfitters who sold Pillin made swords bearing “Wilkinson & Co 16 St James Road Southsea” etched to the ricasso; this sword was not made by Wilkinson Sword! These Wilkinson & Co swords find much favour with collectors as they are rarer than Wilkinson Sword made swords and afford much more conversation material!

The 31 5/8 inch very well / quality grey etched blade is in very good condition, some patina (inert rust) patches but not many, plus is firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard also very good. The white fishskin grip is a little grubby / worn but good, as are the associated grip wire bindings. The sword knot, incorrectly tied to the scabbard, perhaps to signify a fallen officers, is aged but sound. The leather and brass fittings scabbard is good, some age and wear. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice sword, great conversation piece, well priced; was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference X61. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 117x15x14 (1.815).
