1852 Model USN United States Navy Officer's
Lion's Head Sword, for sale |
In aged condition, a rare 1852 Model USN United States Navy Officer's
Lion's Head Sword and Scabbard.

There were a number of 1852M variants, bespoke individual swords
made to order for United States Naval officers who wanted something
special. Probably a British born or connected officer as lions head
naval swords were the order of the day there, plus, we bought the
sword from an estate sale in London.

The plain 29 3/4 inch period sharpened blade may be slender but
it is a fighting blade none the less; in good condition with a steady
patina and a couple of small nicks to the cutting edge. Blade has
a little movement in grip, not much; more movement in hilt. The
hilt in aged but sound condition. The fishskin (rayskin) grip has
shrunk a little and does not rest fully into the guard. The steel
scabbard is aged and a little worn but sound. The sword sheathes
and draws a tad loosely.
