There are plenty of much later versions of this mighty sword around, but few early domed pommel ones like this, and few marked to regiments. Not only is this one (the scabbard) marked to the 10th (Magdeburg) Hussars but being dated to 1865, this sword would have seen very active battle service at the crucial Battle of Königgrätz in the Austro-Prussian War.

The mighty 34 inch period sharpened blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt guard with a steady light inert rust / patina is in good shape. The composite grip worn but good. The steel scabbard in good shape except it has lost its throat piece, with a rust / patina to match the hilt.

This is an almighty sword for hussars (light cavalry) to carry, and a rare one to the market. Shouldn't be around on our books long at £1000. Please quote item reference number W72. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box 1199-121x19x16 (3.143).
