This George V sword is WW1 or just after, as there are no WW1 battle honours on the blade. The sword has been replated at some stage, probably by the original owner as he quality of replating is very good and the onlt small patch of rust is on the drag / chape. Slender levee weight dress sword but then infantry swords especially were rarely used as weapons by the time of World War One.

The 32 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition, the etching still very clear. Like all of the sword. there is a little old dry metal polish in the crevaces (can be removed with care) but the vast majority of the whiteness you see in the photo's hilt engraving lines is due to the course engraved surface inside those lines white reflecting the camera flash; it does not appear white to the human eye. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard in very good shape. The fishskin grip with some age and wear but generally very good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The original sword know is aged and a little worn / grubby, but good. The plated steel scabbard in very good condition save for the small rust patch on the chape. The tightening screws are missing from the scabbard throat but, as the sword sheathes and draws well, these may well have never been fitted.

Lovely looking sword with battle honours (up to and including South Africa 1902) and in very good condition. Well worth £800. Please quote item reference number W58. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box 1186-101x19x16 (1.980).
