Dutch KNIL 1911M Hembrug Klewang Cutlass,
Unit Marked, sold |
In good condition, a Dutch East Indies KNIL 1911M Hembrug Klewang
Cutlass, Unit Marked.

Most of these KNIL klewangs in Indonesia (Dutch East Indies) were
captured and converted by the invading Japanese; complete / unmodified
klewangs like this one are quite scarce. You find them in the UK
because the British managed Indonesia for the Dutch immediately
after the war, so many swords, etc. came to the UK from there as
war trophies.

The 24 1/4 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt
and grip. The hilt / guard also good. The wooden grips have wear
and one side there is a small piece missing, but are generally good.
The leather scabbard was dry, so we put leather balsam on it, which
means it may be a little tacky for a while. The cutlass sheathes
and draws well.
A superb, well above average example. Well prices at £? (too
late, now sold). Please quote item reference number W51 (1182).
Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
