The hilt and curve sabre blade speak of 1775 to 1780. The remains of the maker's name to the blade's spine may be for Craven, who made swords from 1777. There is a period nick to the forward cutting edge, so this sword may well have seen action during the American Revolutionary War (American War of Independence).

The 28 3/4 inch blade is in overall good condition and with a steady patina. Blade a tiny bit loose in the grip / hilt but less than average. The hilt with a little distortion as is common with these relatively frail hilts / guards, but not too much. Twisted wire grip in good shape.

A very good example for just £600. Please quote item reference number W49. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box 1171-101x18x17 (1.606).
