Rare? Yes, most Edwardian (Edward VII & George V) swords and dirks had the British Royal Coat of Arms but not the king's cypher; this one has a rarely seen Edward VII cypher to the blade. Etched to Gieves Matthews and Seagrove Ltd (trading style from 1907 to 1911).

The 17 15/16 inch blade is in good condition but with patina patches, and firm in the hilt. The hilt is in good order. The fishskin with a little shrinkage but not much and in good order, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The leather and brass scabbard is good but with age, wear, et. The spring locking pin has a break and has been glued down so it does not spring up to hold the scabbard though the scabbard holds nicely on the blade. The dirk sheathes and draws well.

If this had the standard British Royal Coat of Arms it would b worth less. With the Edward 7th cypher, it is well worth £600. Please quote item reference number V95. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box 1101-60x30x15 (1.348).
