Waterloo era 1786 model Prussian Rifle Regiment
Sword, sold |
In fair condition, a Waterloo era 1786 model Prussian Rifle Regiment
(Fusilier) Sword and Scabbard.

Engraved "1. L. F. 10. 459" to the knucklebow, likely
meaning "1st Liebe Fusilier Regiment, 10th company, weapon
459". Almost certainly at Waterloo as swords were in short
supply just before. Plus this sword model was replaced in 1816.
The blade is etched with the royal cypher of Frederick William III
(ruled 1797 to 1840). The guard markings "1 Y (reversed). 1.6"
are the order number found on all examples we have seen of this
sword.

The 25 5/16 inch blade is in sound condition save for the patina
/ rust patches. Blade firm in the hilt. The half grooved, half smooth
brass hilt (proving it is a 1786 model) is in good shape. The scabbard
is aged and dry with some splitting and scuffs, but sound. The sword
does not sheath well due to the leather shrinkage of the scabbard;
the blade can be pushed all the way in but it will not do the scabbard
any favours.
A great sword for just £? (too late, now sold). Please quote
item reference V17 (0958). Further / full sized images available
upon request.
