15th The King's Hussars

The 15th Hussars were raised as Dragoons in 1759 under the Colonelcy of of George Augustus Eliot, later known as Lord Heathfield, famous as the defender of Gibraltar during the great siege of 1779 - 1783. The Regiment was granted "The King's" title and known as "The 15th King's Dragoons" in 1766 and was converted to "Hussars" in 1807.

 
The Charge of the 15th Light Dragoons at Emsdorf (left), the Regiment achieved fame by charging and destroying five German Battalions of the French Army, capturing their colour's and artillery. The picture shows the Regiment in full charge!
