In VGC, an Edward 7th 1896P British Cavalry Officer’s Wilkinson Sword & Scabbard, Cyril Compton Jackson

VGC = Very Good Condition
Wilkinson sword serial number 39992 for 17th December 1803, sold to C C Jackson of the Army Vet Department, with cursive “CCJ” etched to the blade. Cyril Compton Jackson was then a Captain who went on to become Lieutenant-Colonel, and who died in action on the 22nd November 1915; read about him here.
The 34 3/4 inch well etched blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel “ladder” guard / hilt is in very good condition; some age, wear and very light pitting. The fishskin grip has age / wear but remains good to very good for its age and service life; the associated twisted grip wire bindings are aged and worn but good; top turn under pommel is absent. The leather bound field service scabbard is good but worn, aged and with some very small worm holes. The sword sheathes and draws well.
