Maker’s name, pipe back blade and “tablet” etching date the sabre to 1840 – 1845 or later (as this was an officer’s non-regulated private purchase, fashion / personal preference was a player over official blade patterns / types). Several pipe back mamelukes are known to have been worn / held / used during the Crimean War, most likely made beforehand and maintained in their service by the officers involved; this mameluke has been quality period sharpened. This sabre is etched to the foremost sword cutler of the time, Hamburger Rogers & Co, 30 King Street, Covent Garden, London.
Ivory Exemption Certificate Number 5E3FE2MJ

The 32 5/8 inch blade has age and some patina patches but is in very good condition for its age, plus firm in the hilt. The plain steel hilt / cross guard is aged but good. The ivory grip scales (with plain brass grip studs) are yellow with age and scuffed in places but good. The steel field / campaign service scabbard has a light rust / patina but is sound to good. The sword sheathes and draws well. The original sword knot has lost its “corn” (tassle / end) and is tatty / aged, but great to have.
