The blade’s spine and the scabbard marked / engraved to Osborn & Gunby of Birmingham. This 1796 Pattern British Light Cavalry Trooper’s Sword / Sabre and Scabbard have clearly had an arduous / long service life. No regimental markings visable, but the remains of a British crown view / acceptance mark to the blade is.
The 32 1/2 inch blade is in worn / aged condition, but is good, plus is firm in the hilt. The iconic stirrup hilt / guard has age (a pleasing dark brown patina) and is good. The leather covered over ribbed wood base has wear / age and some losses (particularly under the pommel), but is sound. The steel scabbard has age and wear but is good. The sword sheathes and draws quite well.
