Fully professionally sharpened along most of the cutting edge, and with wear to the grip indicating this was no dress sword. Brass scabbard for senior field officer such as a Captain or Major. Etched at the forte / ricaso to prestigious tailors / officer outfitters “Marshall & Co St James’s St London”.
The 32 1/4 inch well etched blade is in very good condition save for the fact it has been fully sharpened for active field service use. Blade is firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard is good but is slightly pushed inwards at the outside front edge, commensurate with active field service. The fishskin grip with pronounced wear, including wear through patches. The twisted grip wire bindings with slight displacement here and there are nonetheless good. The brass scabbard has a ding / dent each side (in different places) but is very good considering. The sword sheathes and draws well.
If only this sword could speak and tell us of its past! A spectacular bargain at was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AI32. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1971 102 x 14 x 12 (1.814).
