Bearing the Scharlieb family crest, serial number 28009 – Proof date April 6th 1889. The Wilkinson sales ledger confirms that this sword was sold to W K Scharlieb, K. D. Gds (Kings Dragoon Guards).

The 34 1/2 very well etched blade is in near new condition, some minor blemishes, the forte / ricasso rubbed feint from sheathing and drawing. Blade firm in hilt. The plated steel three bar guard / hilt is good but the plating has very small wear through losses in places. The fishskin grip has wear comensurate with the wear to the forte / ricasso; small patch losses, shrinkage showing edges under the back piece; the twisted grip wire bindings too show wear / small losses. The plated steel scabbard is in good condition, some age / wear. The sword sheathes and draws well.
