Guaranteed authentic with remains of King George IV’s royal cypher and early Crown over 8 view (acceptance) mark. A Battle of Trafalgar era British 1804 Pattern Royal Navy Cutlass with very old, perhaps period combat use nicks to the cutting edge. We know the nicks are old by the fact they have little or no burr, plus the patina goes into the nicks. It is very likely that while some maybe combat related, the majority would be from sword practice (old cutlasses were relegated to training weapons).
The 28 1/2 inch blade is aged and has multiple cutting edge nicks but is in good order and firm in the hilt. The iconic Figure of Eight hilt / guard has age but is good. The “pineapple” ribbed grip is aged and worn but good. Scabbard absent.
Who knows? Maybe it was there when Admiral Nelson defeated the French and Spanish navies at the Battle of Trafalgar. At any rate, an evocative cutlass to say the least and well worth the was £? (too late, now sold) price tag. Please quote item reference AI22. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1936 92 x 16 x 15 (1.921).
