Plain bladed, so bought by a regiment for a Sergeant or back up sword for officers. Etched at the forte / ricasso to “Wm. Anderson & Sons Ltd Edinburgh & Glasgow”, dating the sword from 1910 to 1956, most likely 1914-1918. The cross guard finales and pommel indicate it was for the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.
The 32 1/2 inch blade has some plated area losses / patina, but is good and firm in the hilt (note: these swords come apart as the pommel is also a nut to secure the blade’s screw threaded tang, so that a basket hilt can be substituted). Hilt good; some small plating patch losses and atina. Fishskin grip a bit aged and tiny bit worn / faded but good, as are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. Scarlet tassle aged but sound. Leather field service scabbard and frog have age and wear but are sound / good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice honest example and price; was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH79. Further / full size dimages available upon request. Box 1865 107x15x15 (1.855).
