Serial number 51014 for circa 2nd half of 1915 (unfortunately, the Wilkinson sales ledger has a large gap for 1914-1917 so the original officer owner’s identity is lost tot the winds of time). Scarce in that it has its original all weather leather field service carry bag.
The well etched 32 3/8 inch blade is in very good condition, some age (small cloudy type staining patches and wear), firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / guard is very good. The fishskin grip has wear (some slight gaps under the back piece) and the twisted grip wire bindings have some slightly astray lesser strands, but otherwise good. The black (for a rifles officer) leather sword knot has some age but is good. The leather field service scabbard has some wear / scuffing, mostly around the chape / drag, but is otherwise good for its age especially. The leather all weather carry bag is creased / worn but surprisingly good for its age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
