Dated “Klingenthal May 1827” to the spine, with correct poinçons (inspection stamps) for Bick and Lobstein to the forte shoulder. Multiple weapon rack numbers to the cross bar of the guard / hilt struck out; the number “1038” being the only intact number as the last one given, indicates a long service life with at least one major regiment. The rack number on the top suspension mount has been rusted away but appears to end “38”, thus matching the sword.
The period sharpened 36 1/2 inch plain pipe back blade has a couple of period nicks to the cutting edge but is in good condition and firm in the hilt / grip. The heavy brass hilt / guard is aged but good. The surface of the ribbed grip has lost a small patch of leather and most of the twisted grip wire bindings, but is still sound to good. The heavy steel scabbard has a fair amount of rust pitting but is still sound to good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A truly great example and who knows what poor sole is the cause of those nicks! A truly evocative investment for only £650. Please quote item reference AH44. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1787-115x15x14 (2.791)
