Including scabbard, frog, straps, belt and swagger stick. The blade etched “Lothian & Berwichshire Yeomanry” and to maker / retailer “W. Anderson & Sons, 17 George Street, Edinburgh”. This regiment provided members for the 19th (Lothians and Berwickshire) Company of Imperial Yeomanry which served in the Boer War. This is an 1821 pattern heavy cavalry sword, which is unusual for a yeomanry regiment which typically carried light cavalry swords; perhaps the regiment or original owner / officer was heavy!
The well etched 35 inch blade is in good condition, but with several nicks and the tip is slightly dented (implying combat use), and firm in the hilt / grip. The plated steel hilt / guard is in sound condition but with rust streaks / patches and a steady light rust dusting to the inner guard. The fishskin grip with wear is nonetheless very good, though the twisted grip wire bindings have some damage (strands astray) and small amounts of loss. The leather field service belt, scabbard, straps are aged and worn but good. The sword sheathes and draws well. The swagger stick is nicely aged and worn.
