The blade has been “buffed”. It may well be worthy of a professional polish. This wakizashi was legally imported into the UK from Japan in 2016 (proof of ownership, proof of right to sell and export, export document stating antique all come with the sword)(scans/photos provided with extra / full sized photos); it cost the original UK owner USD$800 plus duty/tax/export fees.
The unsigned 20 1/4 inch nagasa (cutting edge section) blade is in good but western buffed condition. The “furniture” (fittings) are all good and firm; some very small loss of the “same” rayskin around the mekugi-ana peg hole. The black lacquer saya / scabbard is overall good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice wakizashi with potential. Great price; was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH26. Further / full sized images (plus Japanese paperwork scans) available upon request. Box 1683-81x15x14 (1.232)
