Marked both to the inside guard and scabbard “D 56” (D troop, weapon 56), the sword and scabbard are original to each other, not a later marriage as most examples that come onto the market are. The scabbard additionally marked “W? Y C”; the first letter being very rubbed / aged / feint. If so, this is a sword of the Warwickshire Yeomanry Cavalry.

The 35 1/4 inch blade is in very good untouched condition and firm in the hilt, “Wm Deakin” maker’s mark to the spine, Crown over 1 British view (inspection) stamp to forte. The iconic 3 bar steel guard / hilt is in good condition but evenly dappled / pitted from now cleaned off rust. The original leather covered grip is aged and worn but good. The original steel scabbard has the same dappled pitting as the hilt, and a couple of dings, but is good / sound. The sword sheathes and draws a little loosely, so the original scabbard wooden lining slats have gone.
Truly, a very nice example, matching troop and weapon number, VGC blade. Well worth was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH21. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1685-111x15x14 (2.288).
