The M1811 is the Prussian / German version of the British 1796P light cavalry sabre but is heavier! A really impressive beast of a sword to hold.
Quite likely was at Waterloo. The problem is that Prussian markings were not regulated until much later. The original markings are the small feint “284S 2” to the guard and “284” to the spine; this is the 284th M1811 ever made, so it was made prior to Waterloo. Arguments persist as to the original “284S 2” type markings; 50% say they are regimental markings, 50% say they are stores numbers. What is clear, especially the lack of a Prussian crown date stamp to the blade’s spine, it is an early sword and the blade is original to the hilt / guard. The cutting edge has been period sharpened and has some nicks. If the 284S 2 is regimental, it likely is for the Schlesiche Husaren Regiment who were at Waterloo. You decide!
Later markings are easier;
2. T. P. 5. 83.
2nd (armaments etc.) Train Battalion, Division 5, Weapon 83
E. P. D. II
Ersatz-Pferde-Depot, 2nd Army Corps, Weapon 33

Inspection mark
The 31 3/4 inch sharpened blade is in good condition but for a few nicks and firm in the grip / hilt. The stirrup hilt / guard is worn / aged but good. The grip made smooth with age / use, is in good condition. The heavy steel scabbard has age, wear and some very small dings, but is still very good. The sabre sheathes and draws well, but is tight when fully sheathed.
An early M1811 is a must have for any Waterloo collector. This one is well above average at a well below average price; was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AH20. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1770-121x18x16 (3.163).
