Dated August 1814 to the blade’s spine ad with correct corresponding poinçons for Borson, Bick and Lobstein. Most likely a Waterloo / 100 Days War battle / veteran bring back trophy as there are no post-1815 markings. This saber has a period letter “A” punched to the back of the guard and also scabbard; these are not French inspection marks or likely French regimental markings, but possibly British capture markings (plus the saber has been in the UK since living memory apparently). The An XI light cavalry sabers are much rarer then Napoleonic French heavy cavalry swords.
The 34 1/2 inch blade is in good condition save for a wear patch one side, and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt in also good condition, as is the original leather grip; the brass grip “olives” are still present and good. The heavy steel scabbard is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
In well above average condition. A stunning evocative investment at was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AG88. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box AG88 125x17x17 (3.192).
