Late 19th Century (Boxer Rebellion era). A good example of a heavy fighting dao with the grip cover intact.
The 27 3/4 inch blade is in good condition, some rust / patina, but could possibly use a good clean. Blade firm in the hilt / grip. The hilt, pommel and grip all with age but good. The rayskin pattern scabbard covering is a little saggy but good. The scabbard fittings with some rust but are sound. The sword sheathes and draws well, if a little tightly about 2/3 the way in.
