Caveat: Michael Lloyd Ferrar Snr, not his very famous son of the same name! This sword’s serial number is 27029 for 1885. It is a light weight dress sword with slender blade. NB: The scabbard is slightly curved, which was the fashion despite the blade being straight and is perfectly correct.
The 32 1/4 inch slender blade is exceptionally well etched and in very good condition, plus firm in the hilt. The brass hilt has some distortion which these “Gothic” hilts did suffer from given the softness of the metal. The fishskin grip is mostly good but has dry shrunk a little exposing the edge one side; grip wire binding are overall good. The browned metal scabbard has some dings, wear, etc. but is overall good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
