Garde-Dragoner-Regiment Königin Viktoria von Großbritannien u. Irland Nr.1. 1st Prussian Dragoon Guards “Queen of Great Britain and Ireland”.
Marked “1. G. D. 5. 79.” for 5th Squadron, Weapon 79; matching scabbard and hilt / guard. Made by / etched to “F. A. Hermes Solingen”. The blade and scabbard are bent, old damage, most likely battle damage; we only were told this sword was a war trophy. The scabbard shows the damage is period due to the corrosion to the break; the scabbard only just is complete (it could break in two easily). The blade likely could be straightened by a full service blacksmith with a forge but, if it is battle damage (from the trooper falling) then correcting it would be a mistake in our opinion. The scabbard and blade damage are corresponding; the damage happened while the sword was full sheathed.

The 32 1/8 inch blade is in very good condition, except for the above said damage. Blade firm in hilt. The hilt with some buckling across the knucklebow commensurate with a fall. The composite grip in very good condition. The scabbard is in poor condition. The sword does sheath and draw but not very well due to the damage, as you would expect.
