Early 18C British Infantry Officer's Sword
With Earlier Blade, for sale
In fair to good condition, an early 18C British Infantry Officer's
Sword With Earlier 17C Blade.
The hilt is very British / Prussian, while the blade has markings
most closely resembling those of Italy in the early 17C, for example
Respice Finem of Milan circa 1620. Although Prussia also used similar
markings, they again date to the 17C. As we bought the sword as
a British sword in the UK, we presume it is British.
The 28 7/8 inch blade is in good condition with a steady patina,
plus a few old, likely period, slight impact dents to the cutting
edge. The blade is firm in the grip but the knuckle bow has a little
movement, which is perhaps to be expected. The grip has lost some
of its surface binding but is overall good.
An interesting early 18C sword with earlier blade worthy of further
investigation. Nicely priced at just £650. Please quote item
reference number AF59. Further / full sized pictures available upon
request. Box 1153-102x18x16 (1.675).
