Victorian / Boer War British Infantry Officer's
Wilkinson Sword, sold |
In good overall condition, a Victorian / Boer War British Infantry
Officer's Wilkinson Sword; a perfect home restoration project to
potentially yield a museum grade piece.

Serial number 36560 for early 1899. Steel hilt (not plated); not
a dress sword. Blade section near the end sharpened for field use.
We have not researched the original owner / officer with Royal Armouries
(keeper of a copy of the Wilkinson sales ledger), but we suspect
it will be for an officer that served in the Boer War. The cost
of a Wilkinson Sword serial number report is just £10.

The 32 1/2 inch blade with period sharpened point section is in
very good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt has rust
/ patina blotches but being unplated steel could be home refurbished.
The fishskin grip with wear but good and the twisted grip wire bindings
present but with some movement; this sword has been held a lot.
The steel scabbard with patina / rust patches but good. The sword
sheathes and draws well.
Well worth paying the Royal Armouries a £10 Wilkinson research
fee. Well suited to easy careful home restoration (the critical
blade being superb). Well worth £? (too late, now sold). Please
quote item reference number AF38. Further / full sized pictures
available upon request.
