Runkel Solingen Blue & Gilt British Light
Cavalry Officer's Sabre, sold |
In good condition, a stunning Napoleonic JJ Runkel of Solingen
Blue & Gilt British Light Cavalry Officer's Sabre / Sword.

With good amounts of blue and gilt etching remaining, this 1796
pattern JJ Runkel made sword has the post 1801 Royal Coat of Arms,
which dates it from 1802 to 1808 when Runkel died. The blade is
period sharpened and has a couple of small nicks and roughness to
the forward cutting edge indicating it has been used in battle.

The 32 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The
hilt / guard with a steady patination is good. The original leather
grip is starting to look worn and frail and has worm holes; the
grip wire bindings are aged but good. The sabre sheathes and draws
well.
A beautiful sword that has likely afflicted some French soldier.
A great price, £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item
