Mid 19C Abyssinian / Ethiopian Watered Mameluke,
sold |
In good condition, a superb as it is rare mid 19C Abyssinian /
Ethiopian Mameluke with Tigrinya / Amharic Script to the watered
blade.

Almost certainly Prussian made, a fine mid 1800's Abyssinian /
Ethiopian military officer's mameluke sabre with fully watered blade
and Tigrinya / Amharic type script, plus curved / cursive Nile Grass
decoration. This is a very well made fighting sword with period
sharpened blade.

The superb 33 inch blade is in very good condition save for some
former rust pitting to the point end and a period nick plus some
associated abrasion to the forward cutting edge. Blade firm in the
hilt. The hilt / steel cross guard in good order. The ivory grip
scales in good shape though with some scuff lines and age cracks.
One of the small six pointed star "rosettes" is missing
from the grip.
This is one rare, impressive, beautiful fighting sword at a bargain
price of only £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference
number AF30 (1082). Further / full sized pictures available upon
request.
