ERII British Infantry Officer's Sword with
Victorian Family Blade, for sale
In good condition, an ERII British Infantry Officer's Sword with
Victorian Family Blade.
The blade has been replated so the etching is very feint but the
Victorian crown and cypher are just visible, as is the maker's name
"J B Johnston". The blade is an 1892 "dumbbell"
pattern and Johnston went out of business in 1897, so the blade
date from 1892 to 1897. Mounted into an ERII hilt, almost has to
be a family blade to honour an ancestor who served Queen Victoria.
The 32 inch slim dress weight blade is in good order and firm in
the hilt. The hilt good. The grip with some age / fading but very
good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The leather scabbard
is good but with age and some wear / loss. The frog and belts are
sound but aged. The sword knot has lost its button and is sound
but aged. The sword sheathes and draws quite well.
Nice sword with obvious history. Nicely priced at £500. Please
quote item reference number AF26. Further / full sized pictures
available upon request. Box 1090-121x19x16 (2.186).
