Early 19C US American Ketland Eagle Infantry
Officer's Sword, for sale
In fair condition, a scarce early 19C (1805+) US American Ketland
Eagle Infantry Officer's Sword.
Most likely French made, quite likely a British War of 1812 trophy.
The 31 3/4 inch blade is aged with a steady patina throughout, a
little light rusting and some ominous period nicks to the forward
cutting edge which speak of past use. The hilt with some movement,
the grip less so. The hilt in overall good shape except for the
quillon which is bent inwards towards the spine of the blade. The
ivory grip good, nicely age yellowed, some cracks as to be expected.
Most likely a fallen American officer's sword, but in any event
a scarce example and well worth £700. Please quote item reference
number AF14. Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
