Most likey a family pruchase for their newly commissioned son, tehre are no records of a R G Freeland at that time in the Royal Navy. There are several Freelands, most likely William F E Freeland who saw service in the Royal Navy's West Africa squadron in charge, for a time, of an exporation paddle steamer used along the Zambesi / Congo / Niger Rivers.
