Victorian Boer War Bucks Yeomanry Veterinary
Majors Sword, Sold |
In very good condition, a superb and stylish Victorian Boer War
Royal Bucks Yeomanry Veterinary Majors Sword, named to H. G. Lepper.

Made by Hobson of London and Woolwich, this is one very well made
and etched sword, with the owner officer's name and function, "Vety.
Surgeon, Lepper". Lepper attained the rank of Major on the
17th June, 1896. The Buckinghamshire Yeomanry (Royal Bucks Hussars)
saw service in the Boer War as part of the British Imperial Yeomanry.
Veterinary Major H. G. Lepper resigned his Commission, with permission
to retain his rank and wear the uniform of the Regiment on retirement,
on the 2nd November, 1901.

The supremely well etched 35 1/2 inch blade has hardly a blemish
on it; apart from the slightest of wear and a few very small patina
spots, you would think the blade was brand new. Blade firm in the
hilt. The hilt with some age but still very good. The fishskin grip
in excellent condition, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The
steel scabbard with spots / patches of patina / slight rust, but
good. The sword sheathes and draws well enough if a little loosely.
A really well above average sword with full provence. This would
take special place in any collection and is just £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference U43 (0849). Further / full
sized images available upon request.
