1854 Pattern British Infantry Officer's Wilkinson
In overall good though aged condition, an 1854 Pattern British
Infantry Officer's Wilkinson Sword, King’s Royal Rifle Corps
Wilkinson serial number 10829 for 1860, etched to "C G Fryer,
60th Rifles" to the blade. Charles Gilbert Fryer born 1840
died 1919. He joined the King’s Royal Rifle Corps (60th Regiment
of Foot) as an Ensign in 1860, was promoted to Lieutenant in 1864,
and Captain in 1873; he resigned his commission 1876.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is in good condition but has some inert rust
patches. Blade firm in the hilt and grip. The brass hilt has bending
damage like the majority of these swords (brass is not very strong).
The fishskin grip very good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings.
The steel field scabbard is good but aged and with some dings. The
sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice example, great maker, officer identified. A good buy at £?
(too late, now sold). Please quote item reference T31 (0757). Further
/ full sized images upon request.
