1822 Pattern Victorian British Infantry Officer's
In good condition, an 1822P Victorian British Infantry Officer's
The pipe back blade and folding guard mean this is an 1822 pattern
(replaced in 1845 by the 1845P with fullered blades). The cypher
to the hilt is Victorian, so date wise 1838 to 1845.
The 32 1/8 inch blade is in good condition but with a fairly steady
patina. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt with a little denting (these
brass hilts were so prone to this), but overall good and the folding
section works well. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings
in good shape. The leather and brass fittings scabbard very good
for age, some cracking, etc but well above average. The sword sheathes
and draws well but can catch when first inserting.
Nice example, nicer price; £? (too late, now sold). Please
