Sales enquiries

Post 1912 Gieves name etching to ricasso, this dirk is almost certainly 1917-1918 due to blade finish and fact it has a stamped proof mark. Serial number 3353 confirms this is not a Wilkinson Sword made item (many Gieves swords / dirks were). The all weather bag quite bespoke in that the hood appears too small for the bag itself, but it does all fit!

The 17 3/4 inch blade is in overall good order, some patina patches (not many), firm in the hilt. The hilt and grip overall very good, as is the sword knot. The scabbard is good but has suffered a heavy hand (the leather under the top locket has a tear and the fitting is loose but can be easily glued firm into place, as they often did then anyway). The dirk sheathes and draws well. The all weather bag good for age.

Nice example, fair price: £? (too late, now sold). Please quote reference number R73 (0560). Further / full sized images available upon request.
