George V British Royal Indian Marine Officer's
Wilkinson Sword, sold |
A scarce George V British Royal Indian Marine Officer's Wilkinson
Sword in good condition.

Royal Indian Marine officer's sword are scarce, even rare. The
Royal India Marine was the Indian branch of the British Royal Navy.
This one was made by Wilkinson Sword, serial number 58059 for 1919,
for Gieves Ltd of London, Portsmouth and Devonport. NB: The original
officer can not be traced on the Wilkinson sales ledger as it will
simply show "Gieves".

The 31 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition except for a few
patina patches, not too many. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt which
is the solid type (no folding section) is in good condition. The
fishskin grip is very good (large rayskin nodules), a little grubby,
the twisted grip wire bindings good. The original sword knot aged
and tatty but whole. The leather and brass fittings scabbard has
a kink / weak line / split towards the chape. The sword sheathes
and draws quite well but does need a little push at one point. The
locking mechanism works OK.
A good example. A great buy at only £? (too late, now sold).
