Boer War Era British Victorian Rifle Volunteer
Officer's Sword, Sold |
In good condition, a Boer War era British Victorian 1895P Rifle
Volunteer Officer's Sword, older blade.
This 1895P has an older fullered blade in it, from an 1854P infantry
or 1827P rifle regiment sword, no doubt when the new 1895P was mandated.
As a result, the maker / retailer's section on the ricasso is now
inside the hilt.
The 32 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the
hilt. The hilt very good but a small amount of grazing / patina
to the inner hilt edge and inside of the guard as should be expected.
The grip also very good but with some staining / wear, not much.
The sword knot aged but good. The leather scabbard is very bespoke
in that it is floppy; it was made without inner stiffening, for
whatever reason; consequently the scabbard has a number of creases.
The sword sheathes and draws well if a little loosely.
A quite unusual even bespoke example in very good order; a true
bargain at £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference
Q52 (0365). Further / full sized images available upon request.
