Crimean War Scottish Highland Infantry Officer's
Broadsword, Sold |
In good condition, a Crimean War Scottish Highland Infantry Officer's
Broadsword by Wilkinson Sword. Serial number 6218 for April 1855.

Unfortunately the Wilkinson sales ledger does not state the person
/ officer that bought this sword (see further below). Which is a
shame, to say the least, as the scabbard and hilt have been chemically
browned for field (battle) use, plus the blade is plain apart for
the Wilkinson logo, and the blade has several small grazes and one
nick, implying the sword saw very active service almost certainly
at the end of the Crimean War.

The 32 inch claymore blade is in good though a little aged condition,
and with some signs of slight battle damage to the forward cutting
edge. Blade with a tiny bit of movement in the browned hilt / guard
(not much; perhaps the pommel nut needs tightening). The grip with
wear (including a small patch missing) but overall good, the twisted
grip wire bindings still good. The browned field use scabbard is
good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
If only we knew the original owner officer or swords could speak!
In any event, Crimean War Wilkinson Swords are rare, so £?
(too late, now sold) is a nice price. Please quote item reference
Q11 (0342). Further / full sized images available upon request.
