1796 Pattern JJ Runkel made British Infantry
Officer's Sword, Sold
In fairly good condition, a 1796 Pattern JJ Runkel made British
Infantry Officer's Sword.
The folding guard makes this a 1796 pattern (not a 1786 pattern).
This pattern of sword was worn, held and used extensively by British
infantry officers during the Napoleonic Wars.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is worn (etching now feint) but in good order
and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt with patches of gilt remaining
is good. The twisted silver metal wire grip has some gapping but
is pretty good despite this. The leather and metal fitting scabbard
is aged but good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A great Napoleonic sword for only £? (too late, now sold).
