WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Shin Gunto by
Kanezane, sold |
In good condition, a rare Wo motte Yasukihagane steel blade by
Kanezane (with his Kokuin to the tang), in a WW2 Japanese army officer's
shin gunto.
This was a sword for a serious officer; the saya (scabbard) with
scarce metal chape for durable wear, and just look at the special
habaki (look closely, you will see one side of it). Signed "womotte
Yasukihagane Kanezane Kinsaku" (the "Yasu" character
has been obliterated by rust). Yes, there is a pre-1942 Showa stamp.
67.7cm Cutting edge (Nagasa) blade with hamon still visible but
with small speckles of light former rust (patina spots) and scuffing,
plus a couple of small nicks (they look period) to the forward cutting
edge (kissaki area). Sword generally in aged condition, though still
good. Some shrinkage to rayskin (not much). The saya / scabbard's
leather has shrunk a bit. Sword sheathes and draws well.
