A Fenton Brothers made WW1 / George 5th Seaforth / Argyll &
Sutherland Highlander officer's cross hilt sword, in very good condition.
The pommel and cross bar finales are those for the Seaforth and
Argyll & Sutherland Highlander Regiments. The stamped (rather
than brass lug insert) "proved" mark speaks of circa 1917
manufacture, when quantity in terms of weapons and officers were
as important as overall quality (and this is a quality sword, for
sure). Made by Fenton Brothers Ltd Sheffield, Sword Cutlers to the
The 32 inch etched blade is in very good condition, some staining
light surface rust (now stabilized), but will probably clean up
(use green nylon pad and oil). Blade firm in hilt. The hilt and
grip all very good. Leather field scabbard good generally but has
lost its metal end fitting (chape). Sword sheathes and draws well.
A well above average example for only £? (too late, now
sold - original sales price divulged for small fee). Please quote
