Victorian British RN Officer's Gieves / Wilkinson Sword, special catch

Sales enquiries

Wilkinson maker's logo to ricasso, with "manufactured for J Gieves Portsmouth" on spine, serial number 36179 for 1898, this RN officer's sword has a special catch system for the scabbard and a solid guard (no folding section). If you like collecting unusual / bespoke British naval swords, this one is for you! We have not researched the serial number on the Wilkinson sales ledger (costs £10 if the buyer wants to do it).

The 31 1/4 inch blade is in generally good to very good condition, but with some wear and pitting / patina. Blade firm in hilt. Hilt retains much gilt and grip in good general order. Original sword knot not bad for age. Scabbard mostly good but has small kink / bend; fittings still retain good amounts of gilt. Special scabbard catch system works well. Sword sheathes and draws well.

Scarce made rare and only £(too late, though we will tell you the original price for a small fee!). Please quote item reference N54 (1315). Further / full sized images upon request.
