WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Shin Gunto Katana,
In very good condition, guaranteed authentic, a well above average
example of a WW2 Japanese army officer's shin gunto katana, signed
100% authentic WW2 Japanese shin gunto, guaranteed. Although we
know the signature is "Kanemichi", the first name / characters
are not known to us, so you should do any research before buying.
It appears to be "Seki Ju Katakei Kanemichi saku" (we
may be wrong about "Katakei"). In any event, this is a
beautiful example of a shin gunto with "cat scratch" habaki.
The 25 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition, though the hamon
is now feint and the tip is a slightly different shape to most (looks
to have been forged in a special / certain almost bulbous effect
- the additional full sized photos / images show this aspect). Acquired
from a deceased collector's etstate who liked scarce and rare versions
of WW2 Japanese swords, including this one; side
catch NCO's katana. There are some indications that this is
more than a base machine made showato blade, not least the tip.
The sword components (tsuka, saya, etc) are all very good indeed;
the tsuba and full numbered seppa set very nice; this is an impressive
looking sword. Post 1941 Seki stamp to tang. The sword sheathes
and draws well, the catch locking system is in good working order.
The shoe lace tied to the sarute loop looks army original, so we
left it attached.
